Who am I?

My name is James Lockhart, and I’m proud to be running for County Commissioner for District 3. I was raised in Heavener, where I spent my childhood hunting and fishing in the Kiamichi Mountains, calf roping, and developing a lifelong love for horses and the western way of life. Those values of hard work, faith, and community have shaped who I am today. My family and I continue to live those values by raising show goats, helping young people learn agriculture, and serving our community however we can. During my time serving in the Oklahoma House of Representatives from 2010 to 2016, including on the Transportation Committee, I gained valuable experience and learned what it takes to fight for our communities and keep our roads maintained year-round. I’m running for County Commissioner because I believe in putting people first, serving with integrity, and working hard for the future of District 3.

What does a county commissioner do?

A County Commissioner in Oklahoma serves as both a steward of taxpayer dollars and a hands-on leader working to keep the county running smoothly. In southeast Oklahoma, a commissioner’s responsibilities include maintaining county roads and bridges, overseeing infrastructure improvements, managing district equipment and road crews, preparing and approving county budgets, and ensuring public resources are used wisely and efficiently. Commissioners also often oversee important public services such as waste management programs, including county dumpsters and trash convenience sites that help keep communities clean. They work alongside other county officials on emergency preparedness, economic development, and services that support rural communities. From improving roads for families, farmers, and ranchers to maintaining essential services and planning for future growth, a county commissioner’s job is rooted in practical leadership, accountability, and serving the people of the district every day.

Here are a few things I believe our county needs improvements on.

I want everyone to feel free to reach out to me to voice their concerns regarding improvements to our district #3.

Better roads

Strong rural communities depend on reliable roads. I am committed to planning ahead, maintaining county roads year-round, and making improvements that serve families, farmers, ranchers, and businesses.

Better access to

Trash access shouldn’t be a burden on hardworking families. I believe in improving the convenience and availability of county dump sites so residents have better access to the services they depend on.

I believe county job openings should be publicly posted and accessible to all qualified applicants. Promoting transparency and fair hiring helps ensure the best people are serving the citizens of District 3.
